St. Patrick's Day Rice Krispies Treats Dipped in Green Chocolate with Sprinkles. 3-15-2022.

St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner, and this past weekend Darcy made some tasty Rice Krispies Treats for her Dish with Darcy tumbler. She used the traditional recipe for the first batch however, she thought the treats tasted bland, so she spiked the second batch with store-bought vanilla icing and a pinch of salt. The results were perfection. Below are the photos of her recipe journey. The recipe is written out and accompanied with a drawing by Darcy. Click on the photos to launch a slide show. All photos by Dawn Hunter.

Ingredients

Process: getting things started

Process: cutting various shapes with traditional cookie cutters.

Process: melting marshmallows

Darcy made two batches, and thought the first batch was bland so she spiked the recipe with a generous scoop of vanilla icing and a pinch of salt.

Process: why not make everything green? Adding food coloring to melted marshmallows.

Process: cut treats ready to be sprinkled and green chocolate chips ready to be melted.

Process: stirring the Rice Krispies into the green marshmallows.

Process: melted chocolate and sprinkle assembly line.

Some of the final treats, dipped and sprinkled.

Darcy's sprinkle palette rivals her paint palatte!

It's important to love what you do!

Baby's Best Buttermilk Biscuits or Baking SodA Biscuits, 3-9-2022

This is a simple, old fashioned biscuit recipe that calls for shortening as part of the biscuit base. We spike the recipe with butter in the mix and brush the tops with butter for baking. It is important to keep the proportion of shortening larger in comparison to the butter to prevent a burnt butter taste. Brush your biscuits whenever you like, but we recommend that you wait until half way through the baking time.

Silver Jubilee SuGar CookiEs, 2-17-2022

This is a favorite cookie, and not just during the holidays. We use the basic Silver Jubilee Cookbook Sugar Cookie Recipe and add 1/4 cup of flour and refrigerate the dough one half hour prior to rolling and cutting.

Our Kitchen "Bible"

We refer to this cookbook for everything - basic cake recipes and general guidance for meat, poultry, fish and vegetable dishes. Photo by Dawn Hunter.

Decorating Parties throughout the year

We keep the pantry stocked with items for cookies throughout the year, and most playdates end with a fiesta of cookie decorating. Everything is free form and improvised. The results are as creative as an art class. Photos by Dawn Hunter.

Here is the recipe page

The recipe from the book is on the card that is featured to the right of this photo, and it is the one that we follow. We add 1/4 cup additional flour (or flour as needed) and refrigerate the dough for one half hour prior to cutting the cookies. Photo by Dawn Hunter.

Any Cookie Cutter will due

Here are our favorites, but any cookie cutter is suitable. Because the decorating can get pretty elaborate, we like to select simple cookie cutters. Photo by Dawn Hunter.

Cookie Creations

The frosting is usually a combination of store bought brands with food coloring added, and frosting made from scratch. We follow the simple confectioner's sugar frosting in the Silver Jubilee cookbook when creating frosting from scratch. Photo by Dawn Hunter.
